The Read for the House Program, presented by Kramer Kirsh Insurance Group and Kramer Insurance Center, is a service-learning project that raises funds to support the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House through partnerships with local middle and elementary schools. In addition to helping our guest families, the program:

This program is made possible thanks to the support of Kramer Kirsh Insurance Group and Kramer Insurance Center, the Philadelphia Eagles, and McDonald’s.

By combining reading with community service, the program enables students to take an active role in helping other children, while also enjoying the benefits of increasing their reading efforts.

Last year, over 3,000 students from 45 schools in the Philadelphia area participated by collecting pledges for their reading minutes during the month of February. Collectively, our students read for over one million minutes and raised over $115,000 in just one month! This student-driven program continues to help support the services that the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House provides for families of seriously ill children while they receive treatment at local hospitals. We offer a supportive home environment including secure guest rooms, home-cooked meals, transportation to the hospital, children’s play areas, and a host of other services designed to allow families to focus on their child’s health during their stay with us. The donations we receive through this program are important, and this year you can help us reach our goal of $120,000!

While your child is helping our families by reading, he or she will also be improving his or her reading comprehension, grammar, and critical thinking skills, and will hopefully develop a love of reading that will last long after the Read for the House program is over. Since our program focuses on the number of minutes read and not the number of books or pages, your child can focus on understanding what he or she reads. In addition, your child’s school will benefit from participating in the program; if requested on the enrollment form, a 10% rebate will go right back to the school to support its own fundraising needs.
